Job description

About Avery

Avery is a Hiring Intelligence Engine - not another Applicant Tracking System (ATS) or sourcing tool, but a system that learns how your company hires and gets smarter with every role filled. We sit on millions of candidate profiles, hiring signals, and market intelligence data across Europe.

Our mission: make mis-hires as rare as accounting errors.

We're backed by Builders Studio, based in Amsterdam, and growing fast.

Why this role exists

One of our founding engineers has moved on - we're looking for the person who fills that seat and raises the bar. Avery sits at the frontier of recruitment intelligence and we have a solid path towards predictive hiring intelligence. We’re looking for a (generalist) full-stack engineer who has great product taste and can built and maintain equally well. This is a challenging role that involves talking to customers, shaping the roadmap, shipping features across the stack, and improving the existing technical infrastructure. Our stack relies heavily on Typescript, and we expect you to have a high degree of comfort with it in order to ramp up fast.

What you'll build

Build and maintain the platform (60%)

  • Using agents, write clean, maintainable, and testable code across all services.

  • Convert inspirations from designers and stakeholders into actual implementations, focusing on UX and backward compatibility.

  • Maintain the Ci/CD pipelines, ensuring all tests are correct and pass before merging code.

  • Add or maintain third-party integrations, solving for edge cases and data consistency.

  • Scale the existing platform as new customers are onboarded, with no downtime.

  • Maintain a channel of communication with existing data vendors and third-party providers, ensuring that the platform functions smoothly on a daily basis.

Contribute to the roadmap (20%)

  • Work together with the CEO, CTO, and team to shape the product roadmap.

  • Come up with ideas and build experiments regularly to validate them.

  • Maintain the technical roadmap, and provide technical feasibility for any incoming feature requests.

  • Ensure a data-driven approach, providing solid evidence for or against an idea, and a clear definition of “done”.

Maintain correspondence with customers (20%)

  • Onboard 1-2 customers weekly, ensuring they understand the core platform well.

  • Follow-up with customers, provide support in the form of minor feature requests or bug fixes rapidly.

  • Provide technical assistance in case of any issues.

Job requirements

What we're looking for

Must-haves

  • Full-stack ability: comfortable across React, TypeScript, Next.js, Node.js, MongoDB, and Postgres.

  • Great product taste: has worked on or built products in B2B SaaS environments for at least 6 years, ideally in at least two separate domains.

  • Ability to ship fast without regression: that means you identify the 5% that can bottleneck your work and focus on the 95%, writing tests for critical paths, and verifying changes in PR environments before merging.

  • Use AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Codex, etc.) and show an understanding of its limitations and possibilities. You don’t shy away from these tools, and have adapted your workflow to maximize your productivity.

Nice-to-have

  • Familiarity with: OpenSearch, Apache Spark, AWS, Inngest, Railway, Mastra or similar agentic frameworks

  • Understanding of ETL pipelines and data ingestion workflows

The mindset that matters more than the stack

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and building in an early-stage environment where the roadmap evolves.

  • You document as you go, helping others and creating multiplicative impact.

  • You think about the end-user, and work back from there. You can provide solid data-backed evidence for whether something should be built now or later.

  • You are comfortable with pushing back and saying no (or yes) as long as you have the data, evidence, and can justify it clearly. The goal is to keep the product clean for the end-user while still providing value.

Why join now

  • Recruitment is at an inflection point: The market, data, and technology have all evolved to create a ripe environment for changing how recruitment works forever.

  • Founding-level influence: Technical direction, data strategy, product decisions - you'll shape all of it.

  • Equity-first: Substantial equity for someone who wants to build long-term value, not just collect a salary.

  • Competitive salary: Equity is the focus, but the package is fair.

  • Something worth building: Companies make better hires. People land better roles. The impact is real.
