Builders is a Rotterdam based startup studio. Together with proven founders, we turn great ideas into thriving tech startups. Our studio brings together ideas, co-founders, capital and infrastructure. One of the essential parts of our infrastructure is our team of experts which consist of two development teams and additional supporting roles such as product design, recruitment, HR and finance. Because of the advantages of the studio, our startups can truly focus on execution and growth.

Studio team
To further strengthen our studio team, we’re looking for several full-stack developers who are comfortable working with our chosen tech stack. As an essential part of our studio team, you’ll work on one of our portfolio companies and be part of the larger Builders team. Our team takes great pride in working together, sharing knowledge and helping each other with technical challenges.

About the role

We are looking for someone who feels at home in the changing development world, someone who wants to help improve the product with us, someone who will take responsibility for quality and knows how to guarantee this. You are the person who knows the technical (im)possibilities and who follows the trends in software development so we continuously offer our users a better product.

As a full-stack developer, it is your responsibility to build and maintain our portfolio companies. Our software is developed in React with Flux and communicates via a RESTful API with our backend build with Symfony, Doctrine and MySQL. Frontend apps are written in ES6; we use Webpack, Sass and Less to keep things organised. We don’t like to repeat ourselves and therefore apply code generation for repetitive tasks.

You will work closely with our product owner. As soon as it becomes clear which point on the horizon is up next, you will start working together with the team to achieve this, in an agile way. We wrap up each sprint with a review where we demonstrate new features to the entire team. Everyone gets the opportunity to give feedback, and collectively we determine a strategy on how we roll out new features to our users.

  • Senior-level Symfony, PHP7, ReactJS, Javascript (ES6).
  • You know about building and designing RESTful API’s.
  • You know your ways around design tools like Sketch, Framer or Figma.
  • You have two years of proven agile development experience.
  • You believe in user-friendly software and always try to pursue this in any way.
  • You know that the roadmap is not set in stone and can deal with change.
  • You have experience with version management (git) / release management.
  • You don’t keep things bottled up and prefer to talk about things.

Hard requirements

  • You have a European passport or a valid long-term visa for The Netherlands.
  • You have 5+ years of professional experience with preferably some international exposure.
  • You are fluent in English (Dutch is a plus).
